Spiritual Disciplines, Part 5
We’re on a journey. A journey of learning to follow Jesus, our Master. Our destination is further than just our life in this age, but the age to come, the renewal of all things, the new heaven and new earth, the return of Jesus. We want to be more like Jesus so that we can reign with Jesus in the age to come, following his return to earth. If you and I truly believe what Scripture says about what’s ahead for those who are allegiant to Jesus, then it just might motivate you and me to stay on the path. And for the record, our destination is far more delightful and wayyyy more exciting than what is normally perceived about the afterlife of followers of Jesus.
We’re finally at the point in our conversation where we talk about specific spiritual disciplines. Here is our working list of the disciplines that we’ll talk about over the next few weeks: sabbath, solitude, prayer, fasting, scripture, community, generosity, service and witness.
So let’s talk about what it means to incorporate a “sabbath rest” into our very busy lives.
